SFUYSA 2010 AGM

The 2010 South Florida United Annual General Meeting was held on May 11 at the Grand Palms Resort in Pembroke Pines.  14 of the 23 voting clubs were in attendance with Region A VP, Marino Torrens and other guests also present.

Old Business:
- Redland Sharks (RSS) was impeached from membership
- The Region A AGM will be held in Coral Springs on the 6th of June.
- The FYSA AGM is July 23-25 in Orlando

New Business:
- The Executive Board adopted a modification to the team assistance program for teams participating in "Regional" Presidents or State Cup competitions outside of their home region. Subject to available league funding, a $1,000 payment will be made to each team that is traveling to Southern Regionals outside of their home region.  In addition, if any of those teams then progress to the National championships outside of their home Region, they will gain an additional $1,000.  This is NOT for teams participating in "Regional Cup" at the local level, but for teams winning the state competition and traveling to the Southern Regional multi-state event.  The payment will not be made if the event is being hosted locally.
- A motion by Scott Trip of Plantation to reduce the maximum number of league games from 14 to 12 was made and seconded.  After a brief discussion, the motion passed.
- A motion to  attach a $100 fine to any coach that is ejected in a game was made and seconded.  During the discussion a friendly amendment was made and accepted to increase the penalties to $200 for the first offense and $500 for the second offense.  The motion passed and will be effective immediately for all SFUYSA games. These fines are IN ADDITION to any game suspensions earned as a result of the actions and coaches will not be able to participate as a coach for any team until both the suspension is served and the fine is paid.
- Technically it is not New Business since the "Challenge Division" was initiated previously; however, the Executive board announced that it will be funding a challenge division to begin play during the upcoming SFUYSA seasonal year.  More details to follow.

Elections:
The SFUYSA executive board was re-elected by acclamation to their respective offices for another term.

Other Issues:
- Clubs were put on notice that NO VISITING TEAM may be charged a fee to enter and play at a field.  If clubs utilize fields that charge admission, they MUST make arrangements for their visitors to participate for free.
- Credit Cards for fines.  Coaches and reps calling the treasurer to find out about payment for fines in order to participate in games was brought up as a problem area.  A request was made to allow for credit card payment for fines and potentially other league fees.  As a trial, the league has implemented a payments page under the restricted access section of the website for club reps to make payments for administrative and coaches ejection fines.  If the trial goes well, the process may be opened up to coaches and team managers to make their payments as well.
